Why We Built >|||<

As humans, we are naturally social creatures. It is crucial for us to feel connected to our fellow humans, and that can be challenging, whether traveling to new places or trying to find a community at home. An essential ingredient to happiness is finding “real” friends. Our goal is to provide people with a platform to find these “real” friends anywhere in the world.

In doing so, the epidemic of loneliness will subside as people make connections and share previously unavailable experiences.

Our Background

Hector is a rising senior majoring in classics and philosophy. Hector conceived of klllk ( >|||< ) after having two use cases—being a lonely freshman and wanting to make friends while traveling—which other apps couldn’t solve. He is responsible for the product roadmap and customer acquisition.

How It Works

Jess hosts a cycling event: klllk ( >|||< ) shows her local “strangers” who meet her criteria, in addition to her existing in-app friends & groups. She views the “strangers’” profiles, and shares the event with Madison & Dre.
Madison & Dre get notified: They check out each other’s & Jess’s profile. They feel comfortable attending, knowing something about each other, e.g common interests, mutual friends.
Three people who otherwise wouldn’t have met are now friends: Jess, Madison, and Dre enjoyed their ride and conversation. They form a group in klllk ( >|||< ) so they can chat about and plan their next event through which they can make more friends.
