We’re Not (Just) Another Social Media App

We began small: as a solution to facilitate in-person relationships amidst a culture plagued by inauthenticity. Initially conceived by Hector Killick, a student at BU, the idea quickly took shape, envisioned as an app for everybody. In June 2022, the team and a group of college ambassadors further developed the concept. The excursion became a perfect allegory for the types of experiences we’re trying to create through >|||<. We made new friends by learning more about each other and uniting people we otherwise wouldn’t have met. It laid the foundation for what it has become today – an event-based friendship app that prioritizes authentic connections with people looking to do things together.

Our brand identity is:

  • Fun-loving, respectable, mindful, intelligent, cultured, passionate, non-judgmental, empathetic, and non-condescending.

Our app experience is:

  • Welcoming, dependable, seamless, communicative, collaborative, polite, and emphasizes quality over quantity.

Our community strives to be:

  • Kind to each other, a place where real-life experiences are optimal, healthy, inclusive, tolerant, creative, and curious.

What does it do?

>|||< offers features centered around hosting and attending events, making and adding friends in real life, creating groups, and chatting with your network. Hosting events allows users to schedule a near-endless array of public or private activities. Hosts control the guest list and decide whether to assign co-hosts (up to 5). Anyone can request to attend a public event. Private event details, on the other hand, are only visible to selected guests. This way, users can create intimate events specific to their friends.

Friend groups, teams, organizations, and clubs looking to organize events together can benefit from >|||< ‘s Groups page. Private and public options, as well as co-hosts, are both offered as options here as well. Want to invite your whole group to an event? No problem. Select ‘Request for Group.’ Similarly, you can invite entire groups to events you create.

And for those looking to make new friends (an area of particular interest to Hector), >|||< encourages users to do so through attending events catered toward their interests, easily filterable on the ‘Events’ page. While on holiday at the Outer Banks, Hector and his friends struggled to find things to do. Their solution: make new friends in the area to do something with. Unfortunately, it didn’t work as planned. It wasn’t until after the trip that he realized an opportunity in the market for those traveling, hence the in-app option to ‘Set Travel Plans.’ One of the most disheartening things about holidays is not knowing what to do – our solution offers users the chance to attend local events in the place they plan to visit in advance.

Social media implies disconnection. There is no liking, tagging, or following on >|||<: it is simply a tool for fostering in-person interaction. To make new friends, scan a potential friend’s QR code to request their friendship. That’s it: no competition, scoreboards, or ratings. You decide who’s in your circle – we empower everyone to choose what they want to do and with whom.

The app is available on the App Store and the Google Play Store. It is 100% free and only open to users 17 and older. We are committed to creating an authentic environment both in front and behind the scenes, hence why >|||< does not sell, mine, or share your data in any way. A company-wide trip to a lake house was organized in June of 2022, in which the team, working alongside a group of college ambassadors, further developed the concept. In addition to the beautiful creativity that occurred, the excursion became a perfect allegory for the types of experiences we’re trying to create through >|||<.
